Every week there are various art-related web sites I read. One of these is the Museum Crush website, which is produced by Culture 24. This week, they had an interesting article on the project to digitise the National Archives War Art collection.
Browsing through the 371 items digitised so far (here in Wikimedia Commons) I noticed that there were a few posters by the designer Abram Games. He was the lead designer for the Festival of Britain and designed the Festival’s Star Emblem.
It made me curious to compare his posters in the Archives collection with the Festival of Britain logo, so they’re compiled below to see at a glance. I don’t see any great similarities between the 3 war posters and the Star, but two of the posters definitely have similarities to each other. The Commando Medical Service and the first ATS poster both have those stylised, blocky, modernist figures.
The whole digitised collection is excellent and well worth a browse.
